Reading residents will be able to enjoy German food and drink as Oktoberfest comes to Reading Palmer Park in September.

Taking place from 15 to 18 September, the organisers behind the Reading Oktoberfest are promising a celebration as enjoyable as one in Germany.

The event will see a 2,000 seat marquee pop up at Palmer Park for local residents to come down and enjoy the festivities.


At the centre of Reading Oktoberfest is 20,000 litres of Bavarian Beer – brewed according to German purity laws in Bavaria. There will also be a selection of cider, wine and soft drinks for people looking for a break from the German lager.

There will also be a selection of German delicacies including brezel, bratwurst, schnitzel, hendl, and schweinebraten. On Sunday, a Bavarian -special lunch will be prepared for guests and vegetarian options available throughout the event.

Throughout the weekend there will be German bands playing and the opportunity to dress up in traditional Oktoberfest garb. The event is for adults only except for Sunday 18 September when the tent will be opened up for families with kids able to enjoy a variety of activities.

The legendary Reading Festival is situated alongside the River Thames just 5.2 miles away from the Holiday Inn Reading M4 Jct10 and is held at Little John's Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading, near the Caversham Bridge.
The Reading Festival originates from the National Jazz Festival, which was conceived by Harold Pendleton (founder of the Marquee Club in London) and was first held at Richmond Athletic Ground in 1961.
This festival, in turn, took inspiration from events held in America. Throughout its first decade the festival changed names and moved around sites several times, being held at Windsor Racecourse, Kempton Park and Plumpton, before reaching its permanent home at Reading in 1971.
It now hosts up to 90,000 music fans every year over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
